Over the last few months I have been working with a new product line by
Compatible Systems Engineering (CSE). The products are called X-Photo and
X-Proof. I am told, they are now available. These are OSX only and at this
time drive only Epson 7600, 9600 printers. CSE seems to be working on the
driver for the Epson 2200 but it is not yet available.
The X-Photo is an RGB workflow product and X-Proof is a CMYK workflow
product. These products offer printer linearization, ink limiting, profile
support as well as an option for simulations and only work with raster
images and not PostScript.
One of the many interesting things that I learned about these raster rips
just today was that they can do very impressive grayscale images that don9t
have an issue with metamerism. The way this is done is to setup the rips
lin, ink limiting and then create a profile with max GCR. Also, they are
quite easy to setup and use.
Technically, these raster rips use a CMYK printer profile that allows you
to get the largest gamut out of your Epson CMYKLmLc printer. Even with the
RGB workflow option. This strategy seem quite logical.
Also, my experience with these products is that they come with very good
lineraizations, ink limiting data and profiles, so out of the box you stand
a chance of getting good results.
These are interesting products so I wanted to mention them on this list and
in doing so make the readers on this list (who use OSX and have Epson
76/9600s) aware they can have the opportunity to work with these products.
To do that you can go to the CSE website and down load these raster rip.
http://www.compatsys.com/.
I am told that not only can you down load a demo, but you can contact CSE on
and off line and get them to give you a 15 day unlimited use of X-Photo and
X-Proof.
