Interesting that we are currently getting beaten up due to our traditional
use of high GCR in our proofing products, as this seems to show up the less
than ideal banding behaviour reported of some of the popular inkjet printers.
While the printers we have on hand for development have behaved well, and
give great results, reports from the field indicate that many customer
installations are not so good (and unfortunately in some areas of the world,
it seems that printer distributors aren't very interested in addressing these
issues, but are rather more interested in blaming someone else and making excuses).
Some alternate RIPS and drivers run with a very low GCR, and this helps
greatly in concealing the banding artefacts, and makes it appear that
somehow banding is a fault of the RIP or driver. So beware, high GCR is
great for getting good neutrals, great for good neutral stability under
different lighting conditions and ink ageing, but bad in looking "dotty"
or "mealy", and bad in emphasizing any banding artefacts of the plotter.
