In normal order of appearance they are:
scnr scanner profiles for capture processes using scanners and cameras
mntr monitor profiles for RGB working spaces and physical monitors
prtr printer profiles for printing process of all kinds
The above are device profiles, the below are non-device profiles.
link for device link profiles which combine tables in two or more
profiles
spac for color space profiles
abst for color moves internal to the connection space
nmcp / nmcl for named color profile

There are different construction principles, different data spaces,
too. For instance, a prtr profile may be data space RGB or CMYK but has
to be based on lookup tables.
The three classes scnr, mntr and prtr are most often those encountered
in interfaces, and those one is involved in maintaining oneself.
