Need some help with iQueue...

Hi all,

I am currently conducting tests on iQueue 1.1 (demo mode). I am really
stumped by a problem I'm having while converting grayscales.

To keep it simple, the file I'm converting is a 50% black patch tiff. I'm
using Photoshop's canned 10% and 30% dot gain grayscale profiles for source
and destination (so my custom profiles don't become a factor in testing).
I'm comparing iQ conversions to ones done in Photoshop. I compared
conversions made with the same CMM's in iQ and PS (set through ColorSync),
which gave me the same results as LogoSync, so CMM's are not a factor for
these particular tests. I'm using RelCol for all conversions, and comparing
before-and-after L values to determine the accuracy of the conversions. Here
are my results:

Source tiff: 50%k assigned 10%dg = 70L

Photoshop conversion:
Converted to 30%dg = 33%k = 70L (perfectly logical)

iQ conversion:
Converted to 30%dg = 67%k = 33L

My exact iQ ICC Option settings are:
Source Profiles(tab):
Grayscale Images: Profile "Dot Gain 10%.icc", Rend.Int. "Relative"
Grayscale Vector Graphics: Profile "Dot Gain 10%.icc", Rend Int. "Relative"

Destination Profiles:
Destination Profile "Dot Gain 30%.icc"
(Simulation and Abstract Profile not checked)

Other Settings:
Embedding: both options checked
CMM: LogoSync
Preserve Black: both options not checked

I've tried different settings in iQ, like assign source profile or use
embedded, different preserve black settings, etc, with no success. The only
way I could remotely reproduce iQ's results in PS was to:

1) Assign 30%dg (50%k = 52L), 2) Convert to 10%dg (70%k = 52L), and 3)
Re-assign 30%dg (70%k = 29L)

I get the same results from PDF's with vector information. I understand that
the results between iQ and PS may not be perfectly consistent, but my iQ
results are totally illogical. This is something I can't figure out by
myself, and I have tried tech support.

Thanks for everyone's time.

Carl.
