There's a bit of disagreement over which set of
inks--UC or dye--is easier to work with to get a good
color match for contract proofing. So, let's recap:
- Terry Wyse's vote is for the UC inks.
"All I can say is that with UC inks, I'll get a
profile "out-of-the-box" that's either very good or
may require 1 round of editing.... With photo dye
inks, it would take 2-3 profile edits to get the
overall color matching that I'd get with my first UC
profile."
- Cris Daniels' vote is for the dye inks.
"...but the Photo Dyes are very simple to profile."
- C. David Tobie's vote is for the dye inks.
"I generally find the dyes easier to match.... I find
it to be less work to profile the dye printers,
personally."
I'd like to hear more about your opinions on the
issue. Is it possible that the difference in opinion
is linked in part to the profiling package each of you
uses (btw, we'll be using ProfileMaker with the
Eye-One)? That is, perhaps Terry only uses PM and has
an easier time with the UC inks, whereas the Monaco
Profiler software employed by Cris leads to easier
profiling of dye inks. Also, how many units have you
guys worked with and profiled?
If we decide to go with the 7600 or 9600, can we
switch ink types as with the 10600, or are we locked
into only one ink type as with the 10000? The ability
to switch ink sets would be ideal, because if we have
a difficult time getting a good match with one set of
inks, we'd like to pop in the other ink set and see if
we have any better luck.
Thanks again, guys. This has been a very intersting
discussion and a great help to me.
