I'm not sure if this meets your needs, but it indicates that the door is
begining to open to a managed grey scale workflow. Here is a quote fom Jon
Cone re: his new grayscale ICC profiling system. It sounds like it will be
a big improvement over custom greyscale dot gain curves.
These profiles will not be single channel, but will incorporate
necessary adjustments for quad ink partitioning by assigning the
specific inks to various parts of the tonal scale. Since the density of
each monochramtic ink is different and has been assigned to a particular
ink tank, the profiles are really RGB and specific to Jon's inks and the
paper for which the profile was intended.
Standard RGB profiles can be made from custom ink sets with some
profiling packages that will preview properly. Building in the
partitioning is another story entirely. I don't think these profiles
apply to the original question, they are for a specialized output system.
