iBook Low Saturation

I have a two-year-old iBook that I was thinking of using for portfolio presentations. When I looked at my portfolio (as PDF, generated out of InDesign) on it for the first time, I was very disappointed in the lack of saturation. Is this a hardware issue or software issue. I saved it with two different target color working spaces (srgb and Adobe 1998) and there didn't seem to be a difference. Acrobat Reader 4 is the reader on this machine. It is calibrated with an early version (early 1999, I think) of Prove it!. Thanks.
