<Apple does't write these drivers... though the complexity (and changing
nature) of the OS X printer interface is a good part of the problem.>
Lets face it, the process was much simpler in OS9, and while 9 couldn't
think and walk at the same time, at least the printers worked. I can
hold Epson to some degree of responsibility here, but if it was so clear
cut and simple this just simply would not be a problem.
I am not letting Apple off the hook, OSX has had eons to develop. The
new monthly 86MB updates claim to fix this, change that, and enhance the
other thing. Meanwhile other things are crapping out. I'll stick with it
because overall the system is ok and I like the spirit of the company.
Maybe they can double their processor speeds so that they can keep up
with a $1500 Wintel box, but that is another story.
< I've had to manually correct more Windows device driver
installs in the last month than I have Mac ones.>
Last I checked Apple was a mere 7% market share, I would expect your
findings just based on this fact alone.
< I suspect we'll see faster improvement on the Mac
side, where things are newer, than on Windows, where the technology
isn't
changing at the same rate.>
I see it the other way around. How about the 3.06 ghz 800mhz front side
bus Intel Pentium 4 that will roast the dually G4's for breakfast.
Windows video cards are outright superior, and half the price. Nice that
Apple discovered DDR RAM, after its been out for 2 years. I will agree
that Apple components are very good however, too bad Motorola dropped
development, hopefully AMD will save the day for Apple.
