I am in need of updating both monitor and printer calibration/profiling
software/hardware primarily for the Windows XP platform and have a
budget of
approx. $1500.00. So far, I have found two that seem to fit the bill -
Colorvision's
Spyder Master Suite Spectro and Gretag's Eye-One Photo. Both contain
all the
hardware and software necessary for the task.
One thing to consider is the monitor you currently own - does it permit
you to modify the colour temperature i.e., can you adjust the levels
for all three colour channels, Red, Green, and Blue? A number of
cheaper monitors won't let you do that, so you'll always be
compromising your profiles as a result. Have a gander at your monitor
settings to see if you can do that. If not, you might want to consider
upgrading.
Would anyone care to share the pros and cons of these two products,
ie. ease
of use, intuitive interfaces, quality of profiles, etc?
I have used both the ColorVision Spyder and the GretagMacbeth Eye-One
packages. They are both excellent products. I did find that calibrating
LCDs with the ColorVision packge to be more limiting than the Eye-One,
as its handling of contrast and brightness isn't as sophisticated.
I never thought the idea of creating profiles that rely on scanners to
be any
good. Is this true?
I would agree. I tried the ProfilerPlus package by ColorVision and was
very disappointed. Returned it within a week. If you are serious about
colour calibration, I wouldn't bother with it.
