Derrick,
If most colors are nailed but there are a few egregious errors, then that
will look generally look worse to most observers than a larger number of
smaller
errors, especially if the smaller errors are systematic. Maybe surprising, but
true. Land discovered this is the 60s and its been borne out repeatedly
since. So this really is a big part of the problem. Observer and illuminant
metamerism are real issues here also. And even the best colorimetric-style
profile
will produce disappointing colorfulness reproduction. Target-based camera
profiles frequently produce generally improved results, but the few remaining
problem areas that they can't make quite right, many times make them of
limited
utility. Yours are among the best I've found, but they still have limitations.

I don't think Mark B. is even beginning to suggest that all colors will be
nailed through a profile but I would wager most would be. In the CMS world
I'd say that was a positive thing, wouldn9t you?
I think we can leave camera metamerism to the side here since that happened
with that clear acetate stuff as well. Stick to the technology comparisons.
