Andrew,
I know this camera profiling subject is very passionate, but you're
passing judgment on a product you haven't even tried. The Profile City
version was a very different version. I encourage both you & Bruce to
contact Derrick to ask about getting a demo of 20/20, it works!
A little background on me, I'm primarily a product shooter who works
about 50 % in the studio, the rest is a mix of strobe with available
light and just available light. I've been shooting for 20 years, the
last 4 have been digital using PhaseOne backs. Camera profiling with
Coloreyes 20/20 works. Since using 20/20 my color editing has been
drastically reduced. We color swatch every product and our color is
much better than it has ever been.
And regarding lighting and camera profiling. Yes, you use light to
build your profile but you're profile is looking at your ccd and raw
converter characteristics. You grey balance to "calibrate" your
lighting. After I grey balance for a lighting situation ( which takes
about 20 seconds) I get the same neutral results with either balancing
to strobe, tungsten or fluorescent. As long as you're light is the same
color you get good results.
The bottom line is that we have been able to spend much less time doing
color edits. Some edits will always need to be done, at least going to
cmyk!
Regards, Stretch

Have either you or Bruce built a profile with ColorEyes 20/20?
Only with the former product while it was at Profile City. Yes it was
a very
good product and produced some of the best results I saw at the time.

out of them when I update Real World Color Management, because it's
the only camera profiler about which I've heard anything positive.
