Stacy
David Tobie makes a good point about the complexity of printers and rips.
Here is my .02.
From what I have seen so far in the rip market, there are only a few Mac OSX
rips that support ICC profiles. For older desktop (low-end) printers there
are really only two OSX rips that I know of (and if there are more I sure
would like to know). They are ImagePrint and Perfect Proof.
Now if you want to get a more modern printer such as an Epson 2200 or an
Epson Professional level of printer then you will have three Mac OSX
choices: ImagePrint, Perfect Proof and ColorBurst. Each of these products
offer PostScript. They offer a range of features and different price points.
I have heard rumblings of other OSX rip products, but seeing is believing.
I know the ColorBurst product works on Panther today. ImagePrint is supposed
to be working with Panther in January. I think it does but I will have to
check if Perfect Proof works on Panther, that is useless someone on the list
can answer that question.
Good Luck
Jim Rich
