I don't know how Dr. Bestmann obtained these values (I think they are
derivated from target values, not mesured from reference prints or
calculated from the characterisation data published by FOGRA).
Also I want to mention that there is no accurate way to calculate dot
gain from XYZ or Lab data because of the different measurement
conditions - any calculation has to work with empirical approximation.
Even if you calculate dot gain from spectral data and simulate the
spectal sensivity of the densitiy filters, there can remain differences:
density and dot gain is typically mesured on black backing with
polarisation filter, profiling data usually without filter and sometimes
on white or "self" backing.
