Preview IS color managed and will honor embedded profiles. In the
absence of a profile, Generic RGB Profile is assumed. In no case does
it just send RGB numbers to the screen. In fact, lately I've been
using Preview for printing because after going through an array of
third party printing applications, some of which claim to be "colorsync
aware", they pretty much all screw things up when it comes to printing.

Sorry, my name isn't Andrew. ;-)
