Do you really need an 'intermediate' space? ProPhoto is huge and I never
analyzed BestRGB. On the other hand, I know a lot of folks wo just convert
from their scanner space to an output profile. You could just edit your RGB
scans with Proof Colors activated in Photoshop. That way, you see all your
color moves reflected in the output space, right away. And you avoid the
pain of working with some intermediate color space. Personnally, I don't do
enough scanning to have a "pet' intermediate spaces. And when I take shots
with my D100 I don't use an intermediate space per se as the shots open up
in CameraRAW and they are mapped right from Nikon NEF to my choice of either
AdobeRGB or sRGB.
Ideally, yes, the intermediate space should encompass all colors that the
input device can see. You can find out more about this at
