Most of the FireWire/SCSI converters do not work well with scanners (or scanning cameras,
which they view as being the same as a flatbed scanner). Scanners often use very large
block transfers which the converters try to break into smaller pieces since they were
expecting only the smaller transfer blocks of hard drives. The SCSI protocols allowed for
quite a lot of vendor specific commands and the act of breaking down the transfer blocks
results in the original command structure being rendered unintelligible to the
application program or the OS. The FireWire/SCSI converter that works the best that I
have encountered is the one made by Smith Micro and sold under the Belkin and MicroTech
brands. On OS 9 there might be a few operations that do not work with it, but on OS X it
fully functions, at least on the equipment I have tried with it.
Good luck!
