Wouldn't the Median filter in PS help with this?
Yes, yes! Fantastic. This was in connection with a cautionary remark of
mine that Nearest Neighbor (NN) resampling, while nicely eliminating all
traces of interior borders, would not do any averaging on the way to a
single pixel per patch file. Thus the technique would not be applicable
to noisy files such as film scans or digital capture of test targets.
Off hand, I suggested there might be a way to use Filter Factory because
I remembered one of the example files applied a filter on a grid which
is just what is needed here.
But why be difficult? The Median filter is the answer. Choose a radius
large enough to get decent averaging without border contamination in the
interior of the color patches. Then apply NN resampling and you get the
single pixel per patch file ready for analysis in ColorLab.
Of course I had to look up to see what the Median filter was. So thanks
very much!
John
