As I just mentioned in another post, Total Ink is a cut off, not a guarantee
of that amount, rather like an 8 foot high ceiling not guaranteeing that all
people in the house will be that tall, simply that none will stand taller than
that within it. You need to control all the other factors in your profile to
generate the ink amounts you desire (which may or may not be adjusted for you
when you change total ink in a given package). You don't mention where your
profiles are generated, but software without many CMYK controls, such as EyeOne
Publish or Monaco Proof will not necessarily allow the control you are looking
for. You may need GM's ProfileMakerPro, Monaco's Profiler, or ColorVision's
ProfilerPRO, for example.
