I believe the comment was that smaller profiles often produce
smoother gradients at the expense of accuracy on some colors. It's
not a simple case of better vs worse.
Unless you build profiles in the many gigabytes size range, the CMM
will always have to do a lot of interpolation, and that interpolation
generally tends to be smooth. A bigger profile may provide a greater
number of colors that get nailed accurately, but the smoothness is
likely to suffer as a result. It's a trade-off.
