Black or white?
It depends on what you're trying to do. Generally you want
to back the media with whatever is representative of the
final viewing conditions. If typically the print will be
viewed against a light surface, or underlying layers
of the same paper, then a light backing is appropriate.
If you are trying to measure a sheet that has been printed
on both sides, then a black backing reduces the influence
of the print on the reverse, and allows comparison of the
readings between samples that have all been measured
under this condition, but a black backing is not generally
representative of an actual viewing situation.
