Subject: Seeking RGB to Newsprint conversion advice
Greetings fellow Colorsyncers,
I have been successfully working with icc profiles for inkjet and
offset press printing but now I have a need to prepare some ads for
newsprint. My needs are for both color and grayscale and when I call
the prepress at the newspaper they said, "I didn't know there were
different types of CMYK".
Does anyone have any generic advice on how best to convert rgb to
newsprint CMYK as well as grayscale?
I went to Chromix looking for a good generic newsprint profile but
their server is down. Is there something better than Adobe's US Web
Uncoated v2 for newsprint?
Thanks,
Joe

Hi Joe, you are able to download good newsprint profile from the IFRA
homepage, ifra.com. The name of the profile is QUIZ, and is made from
measurements from several newspapers in Germany, that print by the ISO
standard 12647-3. In Photoshop 6 and 7 you are able to set up your dot gain
for grayscale, I think that you are near 27-30% in dotgain if you are using
negative plates, if you are using CTP then 20-22%.
Yours,
Sl. Bryn.
