Hello,
I have some experience with Best Screenproof. The application is quite
the same as the regular Best Colorproof, except that it can combine 1
bit TIFF files into a composite file suitable for proofing. The input
for the application are files coming from your RIP driving your
imagesetter or CTP.
It can produce color managed or non color managed output. In the latter
case you will see each plane as it comes from the RIP.
A newcomer on the Mac (!) is Proofmaster Dalmatian. I had training on
this application just two weeks ago. The output it produces can be
- pure dot = no colormanagement at all
- accurate color + pure black = cmy colormanaged, black plate printed
with inkjet black -> sharp text and gray photo's
- accurate color = entirely colormanaged output
Proofmaster Dalmatian is available in 2-up, 4-up and 8-up versions.

I9m in the process of looking for an output solution that can produce
halftone dots on an inkjet. So far, from what I can gather, EFI9s
ScreenProof and IPA9s ReelColour (which is essentially SeeColor9s
Computer-To-Proof) are two of the main players in this area.
I was wondering if anyone on this list has experience with one or both
of
these and has any input as to which one is better. I should mention
that I
have zero experience with ReelColor, but I do have experience with EFI
ColorProof. I9ve been pretty happy with ColorProof so I would assume
ScreenProof would perform equally well. At this point I9m probably
leaning
more toward ScreenProof for the following reasons:
* ReelColor can only be used for proofing on newsprint (I read this
somewhere...is this true?)
* ReelColor is not ICC based where ScreenProof is
* ScreenProof has built in RIP
* ReelColor is limited to outputting only to HP inkjets where
ScreenProof
can output to several other manufacturers in addition to HP
* EFI has a user forum on their web site
Thanks for any feedback.
