Albert,
Solvent based printers (if we're talking about superwide machines) tend to
employ ink formulas that are geared for long-term outdoor color stability.
Because of this, ink pigments are often far away from the conventional ink
sets you see in conventional printing applications.
The problem that you are facing is that you have employed color management -
which is attempting to deliver the correct color by adding dots where you
wouldn't necessarily expect it to - and that is "fighting" what you believe
should appear on the print.
The key to finding your solution here is understanding that what you would
like to see and what you profile considers as correct color are 2 different
things. The object is to take advantage of the precision color rendering
capabilities of a good profile and still be able to contour the profile to
meet your own visual criteria.
Applications such as MonacoPROFILER allow the user to modify the CMYK
recipes for color selectively - so you can easily modify CMYK recipes for
selected colors. In other words, if you feed your RIP a value of 100Y, you
can easily configure the output profile to give you a yellow only output
recipe.
Your other option would be to use a link builder that would allow you to
preserve primary colors. Art Link-O-Lator is a product that builds links and
has these types of options.
You also might try changing the way you linearize the device or limit the
maximum print densities. Often times, I have seen ink hue shift dramatically
at higher densities. By limiting your per-channel density, you may be able
to increase the purity of your solid color and may be able to avoid much of
the contamination issues you are seeing.
Good luck.
