When creating a PDF/Postscript from Quark, the downloading
of the images is a long today as it was 10 years ago. I know that you can
enable OPI and download low res images and if your rip supports OPI, it will
grab those images at print time. BUT, alas, what if you would like to make a
stop-over at the Color Server; will those color transforms be incorporated when
the Rip grabs those images or does it just not work like that?
I would like to work with magazines with many many images is
such a way that I don’t have to drag around all that bitmap data every
time a make a PDF/PS file. Usually I am working with fonts, trim/media/bleed,
etc., boxes/bleed, and such; prepping a job for plates.
1. Can an OPI’ed (can one say that) job go thru a
color server and pass on the color transforms without the full resolution data
included?
2. Does Distiller 6 do a ‘proper’ job processing
OPI comments?
3. Is it too risky to process all the images first thru
IQueue and when the job is finished (layout), process the pdf/ps with NO images
at all thru the Color Server (same queues) and then let the Rip/OPI Server
assemble them before final print?
If this is more OPI then Color, let me know.
