Jim,
Thanks for the feedback!
Being in a discussion group where mostly publishers are involved, I should
have specified that I want to use it for photographic prints. But for proofing,
I have seen that HP offers two different RIPs of which at least one is Postscript
3. The printer has also it's own characterization device included in the
printer. It prints and reads it's own chart. Whether this is accurate enough
to produce a match print, I don't know. Interesting concept anyway.

I had been considering an Epson Ultrachrome printer for some time, but
someone just pointed to me the HP Designjet 130, which uses archival dye
inks. This printer seems to produce very nice prints and is also much
more affordable than a 7600. But feedback is hard to find. Do some of
you use one and are you happy with it? How does it deal with satin or
semi gloss or glossy paper, ink carts efficiency, speed etc.? Thanks in
advance!

Paul,
I have a client ( a large publisher) who has two or three of these printers
and they have them calibrated so when they lay the prints next to the
magazine they produce, it is hard to tell which is the inkjet print or the
magazine. I believe that they are using some type of inexpensive windows rip
for this that uses icc profiles.
However, there are not many rips, at least on the mac that drives the HP
130.
