I'm troubleshooting a friends G4 with the latest OS 10.3.6(? could be
10.3.7). After startup and before the desktop is fully presented but
the background image is visible, a profile loads. Unfortunately, it's a
bad profile, the contrast immediately is boosted and colors overly
saturated

Check the "Enhance Contrast" setting in the System Preferences >
Universal Access pane.
