Apple Generic RGB Profile ain't that bad?

Working on my monitor profile, I used RIT's Ed Granger Rainbow RGB image.
Fantastic image to study the quality of a monitor profiling, by the way. But
I was stumped by the fact that, in Photoshop, I saw virtually no difference
between assigning an sRGB profile to the image vs assigning Apple's Generic
RGB profile? Only a slight difference in the most saturated red, visible to
the left of the image. Otherwise, I can hardly tell the difference.

So, maybe Apple is on to something good -- after all?

Best season's wishes,
