Correct. I in fact use
NikonTransfer to embed this very profile. I
believe this leaves it tagged AdobeRGB and no actually IN AdobeRGB.
Is
that true?

re: Nikon told you:
"Adobe RGB" and "Nikon
Adobe RGB" are the same. If the profiles are
examined there is a difference in the
black point setting where Adobe
specifies the black to be "0" and we leave it blank (which
defaults to
"0") so the end results are exactly the same from a
conversion
standpoint.
Is this a true statement or is it
technically in error?
Yes...NT assigns (tags) only. Also there is no conversion in
camera and if Nikon does actually shoot into ICC space arrays I haven
not seen it mentioned anywhere. I believe if there is a
function beyond tagging the file in-camera assigning of Adobe or sRGB
(or other) then it is for CCD array or storage algorithms. But I'm not
an engineer. Just another 'darn spekulator.'

However, for some applications (and scripts!) Adobe RGB(1998) by
any other name is not Adobe RGB(1998).
Yes, the space is essentially the same (some very minor blips in
3d graphs in ColorThink) but they couldn't call a cake a cake and just
leave it alone.
