Here's my two cents on this.
I bought some tubes from GretagMacbeth, Just-Normlicht and Ott-Lite lately.
I have been using Solux lamps for over a year now and I've come to know them
enough to know that if I want 5000K CCT out of them I have to crank the
voltage to 13.8 from the rated 12. The Normlicht and GMB tubes I have are
housed in cheap Home Hardware 48" fluorescent fixtures at $15.99 each. I
also have a small GTI D5000 booth. Well, I always come back to the Solux, no
matter what. But I have to admit I kind of prefer the Normlicht lamps. I've
definitely ruled out GMB and Ott-Lite as both are too blue for my taste. In
my opinion, the 48" lamps should give you all the extra coverage you need.
And the color temperature is quite allright, despite the fact that, yes,
they're spiky lamps. But not as spikey as you'd expect but never as smooth
as the Solux. It's interesting to measure all these lamps with the EyeOne in
spectral irradiance mode... And compare to D50 SPD.
