I'm looking for some advise on setting up the ideal proofing
environment for a digital photographer. I'm in the process of setting
up a new studio and want to make a few improvements. We use an Eizo 21
for our soft-proofing, with BasicColor Display for calibration. We
keep the luminance at 115. Currently we use a GTI pdv dimmable viewing
booth. We use this both for looking at proofs and color-matching the
products we have shot. Often we have shot large items which is not
easy to wrestle into the little booth. My idea is to instead set up an
overhead luminaire which can light a somewhat larger area, while still
keeping the room light to an acceptable level, whatever that is!
So, do I use GTI fluorescent which have spikes? I did get some Ott
tubes, however they are bluer than I would like. Ott also makes some
spiral compact fluorescent which Ott says are warmer. Or I can go with
4- 4700 Solux lamps (50 wt 37 degree). However I hear they are
actually warmer than 4700 and maybe they don't hold their color long.
How dark should the room be considering the luminance of my monitor?
Thanks in advance,
Stretch
