I got to see a sample a couple weeks ago. The
specific unit had been on the road and had hence
had some significant uniformity issues, but Will
Hollingworth told me that that was atypical, and
based on my long acquaintance, I believe him.
The gamut increase is very real-the saturated red
and green were almost but not quite painful!
But this will be a very expensive (1$5k) and very
specialized display, that will probably be aimed
more at vendors than at end users. They'll build
hundreds, not thousands. It won't have a terribly
high luminance-I think the aim point is
80cd/m2-and when I met with the Mits guys they
hadn't decided yet what to do about calibration.
I don't know if this particular unit will ever appear on shelves.
