The software is made for two scenarios, one centralized and one
decentralized. In the centralized scenario up to 32 queues are
configured and the configuration locked down by an Administrator. In
the decentralized scenario the user manages the hp designjet 50ps much
as she would manage a RIP running on her workstation.
In both cases the hp designjet 50ps is the LOCAL printer, because it is
the printer jobs are being fed to by the local workgroup.
The hp designjet 50ps also has the ability to export jobs fed to it by
the local workgroup to a REMOTE hp designjet printer.
Following the basic rule that one should only calibrate and
characterize a device over which one has direct control, profiles are
installed as LOCAL.
It would not make sense to install profiles to the REMOTE hp designjet
printer, because calibration and characterization of the remote hp
designjet printer is controlled by a remote workgroup.
The trick to understanding that profiles for the hp designjet 50ps are
installed as LOCAL is to think of the two levels of local and remote in
the conceptualization: In the sense of a LAN environment the server on
which the hp designjet 50ps is running is local relative to the remote
workgroup clients which access it, and the workgroup clients with their
local hp designjet 50ps are able to export PDF 1.3 to a remote
workgroup which also has a local hp designjet. If you get the hang of
it, the idea is simple enough, though.
Thanks,
Henrik
