BTW, I really think it's more then overdue to include the support for the
vcgt on the win plattform like it is handled on the Mac. Does someone
have an idea how to contact the right persons at Microsoft to explain
them that a working color management system is much easier to handle
(especially on multi display systems) when no external LUT Loader is
needed -- where every manufactorer comes up with own solutions then, but
the OS will use the vcgt of the profile to do load the correction LUT's
on the graphics card? Such an update should make it as soon as possible
into the next patch of Windows...
Actually, the vcgt tag is the wrong idea for ensuring calibration.
What the profile should contain is the calibration target information,
since that is the actual condition needed to make the profile
valid.
The calibration system should cache lut tables and other (device
specific) monitor setup, and install the correct setup to meet
the profiles targets. Re-calibrating the display shouldn't
necessitate re-writing the monitor profiles that rely on
that calibration.
The above is assuming that what is going on with video luts
is actually calibration, and not merely configuration. If it
is actually just configuration, then the vcgt tag is a more
reasonable proposition.
