Mmh, that's a good point.

That's true also, but the vcgt ensures that the profile and the necessary
LUT calibration (I know we can discuss if this is neccesary at all) which
belong together are switched at once. I think that's a good solution,
although it might not be a perfect one, because of the reasons you
demonstrated. But if the vcgt would be tossed another mechanism which
ensures that a profile along with the needed calibration must be switched
is needed IMO.

I'm not sure where you draw the line between calibration and
configuration. Where do you see the difference?
I was using the word "calibration" to state that a device is set up (with
any possible settings/configurations via hard- and or software) to a
known condition where the biggest dynamic range of the device is possible
and the response of that device is stable. If -- in the case of a display
-- a specific color temperature (in the white and grayes to ensure a good
graybalance) or gamma/L*-function is needed or wanted can be discussed.
This part doesn't necessarily belong to a calibration.

I'm looking forward to hear your further explanations and comments on this
subject.
With kind regards
