The Lightjet 2080 is most certainly an rgb device as are other film

That's how you see the light reflected or transmitted through a media.

The profilers have to send a data stream in different channels to bitmap
print and or plot. That's not to say that the printer is the same type of
device as the said or chosen data format is in. You can print through the
driver rgb yet the printer may be Grey, CMY, CMYK, or multi channel.
Through a rip you can send most of the common data channel formats rgb,
grey, CMYK, multi channel etc. The format of the data sent to the printer
isn't referring to how the viewing model of the print is related rather the
space that the chart is best suited to be sent through the driver or rip.
