Color culture members,
I'm seeking clarification and enLIGHTenment. :-)
Please excuse me if I'm not using all of the proper terminology here or
if I'm confusing myself.
Are there any printing devices that can be considered to produce RGB
images?
This topic came up in a user forum that I'm a member of.
Until now I've been under the assumption that LightJet type devices,
that expose a light reactive media, and dye-sub printers, that use Red,
Green and Blue dyes in some form, are RGB devices.
The preceding in opposition to CMYK devices such as a printing press or
inkjet printer.
What was brought up in the forum was that there is no such thing as a
RGB printing device due to the fact that true RGB is a
transmissive-additive proposition where CMYK is a
reflective-subtractive proposition.
This makes complete sense to me.
Confusion.
Could anyone explain/elaborate on this?
Is this a matter of semantics?
Background:
What originally started this topic was a question as to why the Eye-One
device/software package is marketed in two forms. One for "RGB" and one
for "CMYK". And which one should be used for a 6-color inkjet printer.
Thanks in advance for any clarifying musings.
