3I would like to shoot the "Digital ColorChecker SG" target in RAW mode,
but I don't know of any RAW converter software that does not apply a
profile such as Adobe RGB (1998) or sRGB etc.2
Phase One software allows you to embed a camera profile and NOT convert to a
working space. Simply detach the profile before building a custom one. You
really don9t want to make a profile from an image in a raw state. You want
to profile the raw converter and the camera much like you would a printer
and a rip.
3Getting an even light
balance seems very critical.2
It is, but that does not mean it can9t be done. It is not unreasonable to
assume that lighting something evenly is within the grasp of most
photographers with only moderate lighting skills.
3shoot a standard Macbeth 24
patch target for each scene as a visual reference2
I9d suggest building a great profile and use good gray balance habits so you
don9t have to rely on the aforementioned. Obviously there is and will
continue to be a storm of controversy about all this.
3Yes!!! Which again raises the question of the need or effectiveness of this
entire exercise.2
Unless of course you could build one or two profiles and dramatically cut
your production time. One or two hours or so to build a profile followed by
untold hours of color correction eliminated seems pretty clear.
3Canon's FVU has an option for linear output, which as far as I can
tell produces a file in linear-gamma camera RGB. In theory, if you
profile that capture, you should be able to use the resulting profile
in C1.2
This seems a bit like profiling a printer using a ColorBurst rip then
using the profile on a ColorByte rip, does it not?
3I use CaptureOne Pro and PhotoshopCS and see no need to do any
profiles, but I'm always willing to learn.
From all that I've read and studied on the subject, I don't believe you
can profile a digital camera.2
Since you are using Capture One with your H25 you are indeed using
camera profiles. If you see no need to build a profile it just could be
because the ones you got with the camera work satisfactorily for you. Which
of course would mean that camera profiling does indeed work. Perhaps you
find the H25 profiles a 3good starting point2 because they are indeed
generic and not custom to your camera.
