It is with great sorrow that I report the passing of Gene Miller,
formerly of Kinko's, Apple, and Corel.
Gene played a strong role in the advancement of color management in
multiple companies. He started investigating and promoting ColorSync
while a researcher future technologies at Kinko's, urging the company
to adopt a ColorSync workflow for each branch to save millions of
dollars in color waste each year (they didn't, unfortunately!).
Gene then moved from Kinko's to Apple, where he was a strong advocate
for ColorSync within and outside Apple. At Corel, he pushed for Corel's
applications including Painter and CorelDraw to support ColorSync and
ICC-based color management. In his own personal fine art work, he
managed his workflows using ColorSync as well, walking the talk.
He was a Navy veteran recalled to active service during the Gulf War, a
much loved husband and stepfather, a straight shooter, and a much
valued friend. We (and ColorSync) are the poorer for his loss.
