I am preparing another colorful image for a client of mine which is
predominately orange and blue. The orange is from oak church pews and
the blue esentially gelled light in deep space to effect evening light
from a large bank of windows. There is one person in the scene.
I did all my tone and edit corrections 16 bit using 'Color blending'
and 'Luminosity blending' (thanks Dennis), Capture sharpening, and then
did my white and black points, and then bumped the contrast a tiny bit,
all the while having a Softproof window open as a second window.
Main working CMYK - US Web Coated SWOP v2
I then invoked Legacy PS engine and entered the 280TAC, Light for Black
Generation, 5% UCA and saved out as a profile. Placed in .icc folder
and then soft-proofed with this profile and the color really died. Can
anyone say why this would be?
I also soft-proofed with a Chromix 280 LTGCR profile from a few years
back and the color was the best of the three by far. I am wondering
why this would be so vibrant compared to the other two. Is this a
suitable profile for Web Coated? If the printer aims at SWOP and uses
TR001 to conform to wouldn't this be a better target? Some call it
squirely, or less tame. What does this mean?
Inquiring minds want to know.
Thanks so much,
Doug Walker, FP
