True. Maybe the best approach is your suggestion of assuming sRGB unless
user goes into some advanced mode via a preference that opens up a popup
menu to select an alternative profile. Most users would simply end up with
sRGB but the more advanced users wouldn't be locked into that. Make them do
it via the terminal <g> that will pre validate the power user (or ask a
question to get this functionality like "how many ICC profiles will fit on
the head of a pin?"

Of course if we could get Ashcroft to make a law against untagged
documents... Never mind.
