Like Preview?

Perhaps my (and other's) confusion is the text in this area that states
these profiles are selected for untagged files. If you remove this and
simply tell folks it's a central depository for *some* applications, it
might be clearer. What Photoshop is doing makes sense in accessing these
profiles. You might also want to point out in some documentation that "your
mileage may vary" due to this non standard behavior of applications.

Then you REALLY need to change the text in the utility because it doesn't
say that. It says untagged doc's which one can open in the applications
above.

Tell the kids working on Preview. Safari is also "broken" at least when you
open an untagged document (not sure about embedded in HTML). Both
applications act the same in apparently showing you the numbers in an
untagged document with the display profile.

For tagged images, it's working fine.
I think the easiest least expensive fix for the time being is to simply not
tell the user that the preferences in the ColorSync utility are doing
something they are not doing (especially in Apple produced applications)!
That's real small engineering to fix the text.
