Now about sRGB as a default color space.
We understand that every version of Windows since Windows 98 assumes
RGB to mean sRGB.
We understand that, because of the recommendations made by Microsoft,
most hardware (including digital cameras and printers) claims sRGB as
its color space.
We realize that the W3C, for the same reason as above, recommends that
a web browser should assume sRGB as the colorspace for untagged images
used on the Internet.
We understand sRGB as a color space has severe limitations. The clear
mid-day sky is not purple in real life (it's blue, at least in northern
California) and Red Delicious apples are not orange-ish (hence the
name).
We also understand that Microsoft has recognized the limitations of
sRGB, and has (as recently as WINHEC last month), made steps to remedy
this, and move beyond sRGB as a default space. BTW, apparently this
includes ICCv4 adoption.

We applaud the fact that the W3C also recognizes ICC profiles are a
good thing.

We further understand that HP (who helped create the sRGB spec) has
fully embraced ICC v4, as recently as their press conference earlier
this month, and has begun to introduce products that do not use sRGB as
the default color space.

Given all of the above, Apple does not believe that sRGB is an
appropriate choice for a default RGB color space for untagged images.
Further, Apple still recommends embedding profiles into every data
format that supports embedding profiles.
