Actually, Roger, it doesn't. The spec clearly limits the

I have my information from one of the author of the specs. The part of the
spec I'm concerned regards to the luminance calibration of the display. As
far as this author is concerned, 85 Cd/m2 does not change whether the
monitor in question is of an LCD nature or of a CRT nature. The rest of the
specs still applies, ambient level of illumination, etc. I'll check my
information as to the best choice of calibrated gamma. But one thing sure,
in a dark surround, a 1.8 gamma reduces the perceived contrast. No question.
The motion picture industry and Kodak has known this for years and hence
articifially boosted the contrast curves on reversal films to compensate for
this effect. But, please, don't drag me into mud, now, because I mentioned
low level lighting and 2.2 gamma together. I don't want you to pick up on
that and tell me that, aha, in all other kinds of viewing situation 1.8 is
warranted? It ain't.
