Look people, I'm not claiming Generic RGB is the best profile on the planet. I'm saying that we've done several empirical tests with images from various sources, and memory colors looked how we remember them using Generic RGB, and they often looked wrong using sRGB as source. When placed side by side, the Generic RGB images were consistently preferred over sRGB images.

Apple has chosen not to compromise color by default. If you choose to override the default and embed a profile, that's up to you.

The issue isn't gamut size, it's where certain hues land inside the gamuts. Find an image, like the red bridge reference image, with a vivid blue sky in it, duplicate the image, then assign Generic RGB to one and sRGB to the other. You'll notice the sky is much more purple in sRGB than in Generic RGB.

Um, yes.... So what? That doesn't say that sRGB is "worse" or "better" than "Generic RGB", just that they're different. And that for the colours in that image, "Generic RGB" is probably a closer approximation of the image's original colour space.

What was your point? Your points re 1.8/2.2 gamma about "average" viewing environments and the resulting gamma of the entire viewing environment are interesting, but on the whole I'm yet another person who's been finding your arguments for assuming something other than sRGB to be somewhat lacking in substance.
"This bridge image looks nicer when Generic RGB is assumed" is not of itself a solid argument.
"The rest of the world assumes sRGB for most untagged images" _DOES_ sound like a fairly solid argument.
