John,
It may be subjective to you; it should be OBJECTIVE - the object being to
ensure color consistency among ALL users of computers. You seem to be making
a good case for never buying a Mac in the future.
Hanging on to 1.8y and avoiding sRGB seem to be 'emotional' decisions by
Apple, backed up perhaps by a bit of perfectionist logic. Meanwhile, the
world moves on without you.
I also don't think Bruce is exceptional (sorry Bruce!). I'm only an amateur
photographer, but even I work in a room with blinds over the windows, no
lights, and I wait until evening for serious color matching. And I also have
a hood on my Artisan monitor - it won't let you calibrate it if the light is
too bright (though I haven't measured what the upper limit is).
Bob Frost.
PS Thank you for your part in the discussion; I have learnt a lot from you
and the other contributors.

It's all subjective; we chose not to go the sRGB route for system-wide

handling of untagged RGB data.
