As usual, Bruce, you are the exception to the rule. I mean that in a
nice way. You are exceptional, in that you work in what would
accurately be described as a "color-friendly" environment. Many (read:
most) self proclaimed color professionals do not. Some can't afford to,
others simply need to multitask too much and aren't willing to keep a
room that dark all of the time, or even to modulate the light output
when necessary. Let's not even begin to discuss how many aren't in
neutral surrounds.
Dear John
Let me just say that Bruce is by no means the exception with regard to
controlling his work place lighting, and I suspect that applies to many
imaging pros. Just for the record our monitor area lighting is very
similar to the figures Bruce has provided but the nearby work areas are
at a higher level than his namely 175 lux.
Achieving a well controlled lighting environment is not costly, it's
matter of careful planning and implementation. One could also say that
over time it was self funding by not wasting excessive light where you
don't need it<G>
Cheers
Richard
