In particular, I just don't see that the following behavior is a good

Take a screen grab, launch preview, and paste the screen grab into a
new doc.
Export this new doc as a .pdf.
Open the doc you've just exported.
Does it match the appearance of the screen grab in preview?
I could not seem to perform this, I am using OS 10.3.4.
I was attempting to do a screen grab from TextEdit using the Service
menu but Preview would not make a new document from the clipboard. So I
took a picture with command-shift-3 in Finder and also in Photoshop and
I am getting strange results with this.
When I open the newly created PDF in Photoshop my file is tagged with
an old monitor profile, not my currently assigned Display profile. If I
look in ColorSync Utility and in Photoshop and in Display Preferences,
they all tell my custom Apple LCD profile is selected. Yet my screen
captures are tagged with a profile from a display that I don't use
anymore.
I did export the PDF from Preview and created a new PDF and this new
file was still tagged with the same profile, so that part does seems to
work.
But how do I get the proper profile assigned in the first place? Is
there a cache file I need to trash? I've assigned the proper profile
for my display but the System seems to ignore my settings in this case
and assigns an old CRT profile that I only used for a short time until
my new replacement LCD Display arrived.
Thanks,
David Wollmann
