If the display was bought as new, and it has the warranty, I wouldn't
worry overmuch about the fab date. The Artisans are hand-picked
CPD-G520s-they only take the best of the bunch.
I would, however, make a phone call to make sure that you didn't get
a refurb passed off as new.
The W900 needs a much heavier case to stop the much heavier innards
from breaking through it!

CRTs don't really age when they aren't used. My artisan doesn't
have a manufacturing date, but the serial number is 26...

Thanks Bruce
Mine is number 8700 168.......wonder where its been the last these
last 15 months, and if there are any improvements in the latest
units. Frankly I do not feel very happy with this situation...any
thoughts out there?
First visual impressions is that it's a pretty 'tacky' case...the
Sony W900 we have here is far more substantial! As for how it
runs, we have not switched it on or even unpacked the leads, in case
the general opinion is that we should insist on a newer monitor!
Cheers
