That would require a normalized workflow so that you can assume source profiles once the PDF is made. This is because any profiles in non-EPS files placed in QuarkXPress do not have their profiles retained when PostScript (or PDF directly from QXP) is generated.

Hello to all.

Everything seemed logical up to now, but I have found something strange:

I separated an RGB photo to CMYK in Photoshop 7.01 and saved it as a TIFF file, embedding the press profile.

I placed the photo in a Quark 5 document and indicated via the Profile Information window to use the embedded profile and the profile default rendering intent.

I changed the profile to the press profile in the Profile Information window and the image display changed on screen. It shouldn't change, I guess, if the embedded source profile is the same press profile.

I returned it to Embedded and then checked the press profile usage and it doesn't show that the image has the press profile embedded. In fact, none of the profiles in the drop down list is assigned to that photo.

The default CMYK profile in the Quark document is the press profile. When I switch the image from the press profile to the default profile the image display doesn't change, as expected.

It seems that Quark 5 doesn't recognize the embedded profile in the CMYK TIFF file.

RGB photos do behave as expected.

I'd say it is a bug but I doubt I'm the first one to notice it. I may be missing something. The workaround would be to assign the CMYK profile manually on a per image basis, making sure the separation is done using the right profile.

BTW, how can I know the color space (RGB or CMYK) of all images placed in Quark? The Usage window doesn't provide that information.

Thanks in advance.
