Also the IP rip has a tremendous amount of color saturation because of
their profiles....

And when ProfileMaker and Monaco Profiler were used to create profiles for
the CB rip the printed results did not show the same amount of saturation
as IP even when we went to the Relative Colorimetric intent....
Many questions come to mind. These days when much content is never in
hard copy until we've completed the above process, what is accurate?
Matching the monitor? Whose? Given that the same monitor can be
calibrated and profiled with several different apps and/or devices (all,
no doubt, accurate). and look different, what is the reference?
I find Gretag profiles, even the much belabored Atkinson profiles, all a
bit safe in terms of saturation. Where'd my subtle pastel near neutrals
go? They all went gray, and where are the primaries? CV ProfilerPro
handles these things a bit better for me.
Of course they are all very good profiles, certainly better than where
we were in the recent past. Many of these preferences are purely
subjective, I don't think of any of them as accurate.
The concept of accuracy is something I don't fret over too much anymore.
I find it best to use profiles that are generally very good, with no
major problems (which both of the packages above will do), get a good
working knowledge of their tendencies, and edit the image for printing
to taste.
Not so different from selecting Fuji or Kodak color paper in the
darkroom to taste, and print to their strengths, neither are "correct".
The promise of accuracy with CM implementation has to be put in it's
proper place with experience. Every step of the process has limitations
the worker has to learn, maybe even exploit. But there still doesn't
seem to be any real solid ground, and for others more concerned with
proofing etc., it may be a much bigger problem.
